When Rosa Benavides, an Evernorth nurse who works at one of Mohawk Industries’ onsite health centers, sprang into action just in time to save a man who had collapsed on the job, it became clear that the company’s investment in workplace care wasn’t just a corporate benefit – it was a lifeline.

“We’re placed in this world for something,” Benavides said. “I believe that’s why I was put here in this position, at that moment, to help him.”

This moment, while extraordinary, represents just one of the ways in which Mohawk is redefining what employee health and wellness look like. With the help of Evernorth Workplace Care, Mohawk has moved beyond traditional health benefits to deliver accessible, integrated, and personalized care wherever employees need it most – and that includes the workplace.

Meeting the moment: A new model for workforce health

As a global leader in flooring design, sourcing, manufacturing, and distribution, with more than 41,000 employees worldwide and 21,000 across the U.S., Mohawk operates in a high-demand, production-driven environment.

The reality is, many employees in this sector historically have faced challenges in accessing preventive and primary care, particularly when seeing a health care professional means taking time off from work or distant travel to appointments.

“The traditional health care model wasn’t working for our workforce,” said Kitty Hardin, director of employee benefits at Mohawk Industries. “We knew we needed a partner who would help us create something different – something personal, immediate, and deeply connected to our culture.” Enter Evernorth Workplace Care.

Over the past 15 years, Mohawk and Evernorth have partnered to develop a workplace health and wellness program built on convenience, continuity, and compassion. The program meets employees where they are, embedding high-quality care directly onsite and virtually, integrating health and wellness into the daily routine of work and life. With a focus on total population health, the program emphasizes preventive care, ongoing support, and tailored health journeys for every employee.

“It’s not just about treating illness – it’s about helping people thrive,” said Hardin. “This program works because it’s built on relationships. Our onsite nurses and care teams aren’t just health professionals – they’re part of the Mohawk family and that makes all the difference.”

A holistic approach: Three pillars of workplace care

Mohawk’s comprehensive health and wellness strategy is grounded in three core services from Evernorth Workplace Care: biometric screenings, custom health coaching, and onsite care centers. Together, they form the foundation of a preventive and primary care ecosystem that empowers employees to take charge of their health.

1. Biometric screenings: Insights that spark action

Every other year, Mohawk employees and their spouses participate in biometric screenings – simple but powerful health checks that measure blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), cholesterol, and blood sugar. These screenings serve as a gateway to more personalized support, offering a clear picture of employee health while guiding next steps.

With participation rates at an impressive 97%, the screenings not only support individual health improvements but also inform Mohawk’s broader population health strategy. Employees who complete the screenings avoid medical plan surcharges, and those identified with health risks, are immediately referred to coaching or primary care (or both).

Mohawk achieved these high rates over years of direct engagement with their workforce, providing financial incentives for families to engage with their benefits.

2. Custom coaching: Personalized, trusted support

To get the most out of biometric insights, personalized support and advice is paramount – and that comes in the form of Evernorth’s custom health coaching. Delivered in person, virtually, or over the phone, employees connect with skilled health professionals who guide them through personalized wellness journeys.

At Mohawk, 89% of at-risk employees engage with a coach, and 70% of participants attend multiple sessions. More importantly, 63% of identified health goals are met within a year.

“Coaching is a game changer,” said Hardin. “It helps employees feel seen, heard, and supported – not just as workers, but as people.”

For example, Sharon, a production coordinator in Tennessee, was introduced to a coach after a screening revealed dangerously high blood pressure. She had no prior diagnosis and no primary care provider. With encouragement from her coach and the onsite care team, Sharon started medication, adopted new eating and exercise habits, and saw her blood pressure fall from 155/107 to a healthy 118/82.

3. Healthy Life Centers: Convenient, connected care

Mohawk now operates more than 20 onsite “Healthy Life Centers” across its worksites, offering acute, preventive, and primary care for employees and their families. These centers aren’t just clinics – they’re community hubs where care teams know their patients and follow them throughout their wellness journey.

The results speak volumes.

And most importantly, the centers drive real health improvements. Jonathan, an equipment operator in North Carolina, began working with the Healthy Life Care Team after discovering high cholesterol levels. With ongoing coaching, medical oversight, and lifestyle changes, he reduced his medication needs and achieved healthy screening results for the last five years.

“We’ve made health care part of the workday,” said Hardin. “That’s a powerful cultural shift.”

Real results: Better health, lower costs, and stronger engagement

Since launching the program with Workplace Care, Mohawk has seen measurable progress in employee health outcomes, access to care, and cost savings.

More than numbers, these results reflect a deeper transformation – a culture where health and wellness is woven into the fabric of the workplace.

A strategic investment that pays off

The partnership with Evernorth has done more than improve health metrics – it’s helped Mohawk build a workplace that attracts and retains talent, boosts morale, and supports the whole person.

By aligning business goals with employee well-being, Mohawk and Evernorth have created a model of workplace wellness that’s both human-centered and results-driven.

“We’re proud of the culture we’ve built,” Hardin said. “It takes effort. It takes partnership. But most of all, it takes a belief that health and wellness belong at work – and everyone deserves access to it.”
