Rural communities play a vital role in supporting America’s military, and many service members and their families live far from military bases or hospitals. For these families, accessing everyday health care, including prescription medications, often depends on civilian providers in their local communities.
TRICARE Prime Remote was created specifically to support active-duty service members and their families who live and work more than 50 miles from military hospitals and clinics, ensuring access to care close to home. Beginning February 28, 2026, TRICARE and Evernorth Federal Services, the administrator of TRICARE Pharmacy Program, will strengthen this support by automatically waiving pharmacy copayments for U.S.-based TRICARE Prime Remote family members.
Supporting military families where they live
Being able to manage prescriptions through nearby community pharmacies or home delivery helps military families stay on track with their medication treatment in a way that fits their location, schedules, and health needs – especially when travel to a military facility isn’t practical.
“Across rural America, independent and community pharmacies often serve as one of the most accessible points of care, helping close any gaps created by provider shortages and long travel distances,” said Lisa Adams, senior director of account management, Evernorth Federal Services. “They are often the only pharmacy option for miles, providing consistent access to medications and personal support from pharmacists who understand the needs of their communities.”
Removing pharmacy copayments for TRICARE Prime Remote family members means even greater access to prescription medications, which helps reduce disruptions in care and supports greater well-being.
“We are proud to support TRICARE Prime Remote by delivering reliable and affordable pharmacy services in the communities military families call home,” Adams said.
