Not sure where to go for medical care this winter? Learn your options.

The winter months tend to bring an increase in colds, flus and other respiratory illnesses. Learn more about how to choose the right care for your needs below.

If you aren’t feeling well and need to connect with a provider, you don’t always need to make an appointment with your family doctor.

There are several care options available depending on your needs:

Virtual Care

  • When to use: For minor medical conditions (colds and flu, rash, sore throat, etc.)
  • Cost and time: Faster service, and costs are typically the same or less than a visit to your PCP
  • How to access: Call 800.233.3264 to connect with Evernorth Care Group, or access online via MyChart during regular business hours

Primary Care Provider

  • When to use: For minor medical concerns or routine preventative care (chronic conditions, vaccines and screenings, skin conditions, etc.)
  • Cost and time: May charge a copay and/or insurance deductible, and requires a short wait time (same-day or next-day delivery)
  • How to access: Call 800.233.3264 or schedule an appointment online via MyChart

Urgent Care

  • When to use: For non-life-threatening conditions or injuries, or when your PCP is not available (cuts and burns, sprains and broken bones, UTI, etc.)
  • Cost and time: Lower cost than the emergency room but could cost more than a PCP visit. Wait times vary; however, an appointment is not required
  • How to access: Visit an in-network urgent care near you, or any Evernorth Care Group Urgent Care location

Emergency Room

  • When to use: For immediate treatment of critical injuries or illnesses, available 24/7 (bleeding, heart attack, loss of consciousness, difficulty breathing, etc.)
  • Cost and time: Highest cost, and wait times can be long and unpredictable
  • How to access: Call 911 or visit the nearest emergency room if the situation seems life-threatening or needs immediate medical attention
